5. Document Analysis Procedure for Identifying the Document Type

Before starting the creation or editing of a bibliographic record, it is necessary to correctly identify the document type or literature type to be registered, since the choice of document type determines the availability of data fields in the registration form in the system.

Important: An error in choosing the correct document type may result in the loss of the record and rework, as it will be necessary to create a new record to replace the deleted one.

At this stage, it will be defined whether the document under analysis is:

  • Journals (Serials): journal article;

  • Book: monographic documents with ISBN;

  • Thesis, Dissertation, and Monograph: research monographic works presented for the attainment of academic degrees;

  • Monographic Series: a book from the monographic series, which usually covers open-ended themes and has no defined conclusion. Example: Epidemiological Bulletin, 100.

  • Monograph Collection: the collection as a whole. Collections are usually thematic and planned before the beginning of the publication. Example: Understanding SUS Management; 10 volumes.

  • Monograph Belonging to a Collection: a book that is part of a book collection. Example: Pharmaceutical Assistance in SUS.

  • Thesis/Dissertation Belonging to a Series: a thesis/dissertation that is part of a series dedicated to the publication of academic theses.
