5.1 Serial Publication (Journal Article)

The correct choice of document type determines the appropriate form in the FI-Admin system and the correct completion of bibliographic fields.

To identify the document type, check whether it contains information that characterizes or identifies it more precisely.

Does this document present any data that allows this classification?

✅ Serial (Journal Article)

  • Is the document part of a serial publication (scientific journal, bulletin, newspaper)?

  • Does the journal have an ISSN?

  • Does the journal include volume, issue, and publication date?

  • Does the record include the article title?

  • Does the record include the journal title?

Procedure:

  • Before creating the Source record, check whether the title is indexed in the LILACS database.

  • Create the Source record (volume or issue, according to the journal’s periodicity), journal title, issue/number, ISSN, publication date, and normalized date.

  • Create the corresponding Analytic records (articles) for each issue/number.

🔔 Bulletin: If the document does not have a sequential number and is not published continuously, it can be classified as a “Non-conventional Document.” If the bulletin consists only of graphs or images, classify it under the Multimedia category.
